Mom Road Trip

I probably should be sleeping right now. Instead, I am blogging.  Isn't that the story of a "blogger"?  We want to put down our words (regardless of the  late hour), and have them read.  Have them shared.  Receive feedback that just someone can relate to us... but alas, my mind wanders as I reflect back on this past week.  Sharing the journey of our SV Moms Group Summer Road Trip '08. 

The "Road Trip Bloggers" are now in San Francisco, drinking way too much, mingling, partying and connecting with "virtual" friends.  Tomorrow, we will attend the BlogHer Conference and remember that our words ARE important. What we say as women, mothers, community activists and leaders matter! 

We promise to share a LOT of pictures and video from the past few days.  Right now... all we want to do is sleep....Good night my friends.

From Reno to Palo Alto to San Francisco!!!!!

DAY SIX: FROM RENO TO PALO ALTO TO SAN FRANCISCO!

The count down has begun.  The journey cross country will soon end.  Devra, Sarah, Aviva and Meagan are in the Tahoe heading west on I-80.

This morning, they were interviewed by CBS (Reno) and that segment should air shortly. Yesterday, they were interviewed by CBS/Salt Lake City.  We are still waiting to receive a link to that video clip.

The first stop from Reno:  PALO ALTO, to pick me up! We will then pop in and meet with one of our favorite technology bloggers and entrepreneur, Guy Kawasaki.  We will then head up to San Francisco and begin the Pre-BlogHer festivities!

Phew.....

Stay tuned... more posts coming soon, from the Tahoe in Lake Tahoe!  (They are passing through Donner Pass right now!)

update from the vehicle... well, sort of!

DAY FOUR:  FROM DENVER TO SALT LAKE CITY

Hello Everyone and Good Morning.

I just got off of the phone with Devra, Sarah, Aviva and Meagan.  They are in the vehicle, but wanted to share that they do NOT have internet access.  They are driving on I-80 from Denver to Salt Lake City.  Hopefully, they will have coverage soon.

In the mean time, they are looking for suggestions on where to stop on I-80 for lunch.  Thoughts?

I have been on the phone with Devra, Meagan and Sarah this morning.  They are now driving from Omaha to Denver.  A few notes they would like to share.

• Loading content from the vehicle, while driving through Nebraska is well... CHALLENGING.
• Broadband reception is pretty low in Nebraska. 
• We are on the forefront of blogging technology.  There is no simple solution.  Connections will be lost one second before it we hit the "save" button.  Figures, huh?
• But... there is a lot of hay outside of our window!
• Per Devra, there is a lot longhorn steer 2.0.

As soon as they break for lunch, new pictures, video and content will be loaded. 

It Is All About Patience

PRE ROAD TRIP

Patience.  I have many strengths, but patience is NOT one of them, just ask my husband. You see, I want the road trip to start TODAY. Yes, I know that the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid is being dropped off on Friday, and is probably in route, on a big ol' truck from Detroit heading to Northern Virginia.

And yes, I realize that we STILL need to confirm up hotels (did you think we already had this part confirmed?) and meet-ups (so the drivers can hang out with their friends across the country).  And yes, I know that we still need to learn how to work all this wireless technology and load posts and video from the car.  And yes, we still need to get familiar with the Sony Cameras. 

But couldn't it just be Saturday?

Actually, couldn't it be July 17th?  By then, a Fairy Godmother would have bestowed herself (or himself) into my living room, and magically transported two hundred swag bags from my living room to our party at Slide.  And from there, they would have been handed out to our one hundred, Silicon Valley Moms Group Contributors attending the party. And then, I would no longer have nightmares about boxes invading my house.

Until then, I will wait.  Impatiently.

Notes from the homefront

I know, I won't be joining the group until the very last day of the road trip.  I realize that I have the "boring" job of making sure all the pieces fall into place and to ensure that this road trip happens.  No, not sexy at all. Just necessary.

So this morning I panicked when the word of this trip got out.  Note to the world - we thought we were launching this site tomorrow, not today.  Note to the world - this site is not completely ready.  But hey, when is a site REALLY ready?  Just marking this as "lessons learned".  Funny, I have learned way to many lessons these past few weeks.

Just taking a deep breath and remembering that everything will turn out just fine.  So today, we added a few features to the site.  For all our twitter friends, you can follow the road trip here:  http://twitter.com/MomRoadTrip .  I know that we will be putting up a Facebook page shortly.  I know that we will begin adding video very, VERY soon - thanks to Sony.  We will also be adding "buttons" that YOU can put on your sites... so stay tuned. 

I have been joking that I would be a miserable companion to drive ALL the way cross country, so that makes me even MORE in awe of Devra and Sarah.  You gals rock...  and Meagan & Aviva, what can I say.  Thank you for agreeing to participate in this cross country road trip.  I can't wait to continue reading your posts and following you ladies as you make it to the San Francisco, Bay Area.

In the mean time, I will be putting together all the swag bags for our Party on July 17th.  Tomorrow, ten Silicon Valley Moms Blog contributors will be taking over my house, and especially my living room, to get these bags in order.  My darling husband has been so patient as our living room has turned into a warehouse.  Be warned he told me.... "this is the last time our living room hosts swag bag items".  I just smile and say.... "yes darling, the last time."
