Nice PR plan. Hopefully your kids won't miss you all that much and will be able to enjoy their summer anyway. Next year maybe you could bring them along...
You're setting a great example for parents everywhere.

Sounds like fun but at what cost?
Good for you guys and for your sponsors; too bad for the planet and the rest of us...
Couldn't you guys have gotten a more eco-friendly means of transport?

Were we not burning enough gas already? Stop endorsing the insanity of gigantic dangerous cars. Get informed about the crimes against humanity by the oil companies and the American automobile companies. Wake up -- the happy motoring paradise is over.

I don't have exact numbers (perhaps someone could help me out here), but based on http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/ask_pablo/2008/06/09/ask_pablo_summer_travel/, my back of the envelope calculation tells me that choosing to carpool cross country in a hybrid that gets 20 mpg rather than fly will result in a lower carbon footprint.

OMG, can your blogging BE any more boring?
Y'all seem to have no opinions on interesting topics. Instead, it's sophmoric humor about corn and "cum & go" convenience stores.
I really hope you learn something at the conference - such as expressing an informed opinion and choosing topics that are relevant to your audience. In the meantime, if you want to improve this site, check out www.dooce.com.
This is what good mommy blogging is.

Or I invite you to check out what these bloggers write when they're not driving 3000 miles in 5 1/2 days, at http://svmomblog.typepad.com/dc_metro_moms/devra/index.html and http://svmomblog.typepad.com/dc_metro_moms/sarah/index.html and http://svmomblog.typepad.com/chicago_moms/meagan/index.html, for starters.

thanks for the links. meagan's doesn't load - but a look at devra and I can see she's into blogging about insightful topic like "What Do You Call A Herd of Cattle Masturbating? Beef Stroganoff!"
As for the carbon footprint - if you calculate ALL the energy consumed - food cooked, hotel stays, gasoline used, rest rooms, etc. I'm sure you'll find on the back of your envelope that one simple direct flight to your destination is better for the planet than a road trip that meanders across the U.S. (not that I believe road trips to be evil.)
Blogging doesn't have to be about being right. It can simply be a POV on life. I was invited to check out yours- I'm guessing I expecting something more interesting.
Best of luck to you all.
