But it's not about hate

Mail.google.com Picture it: You’ve waited your whole life to meet the right person.  You’ve smooched your fair share of frogs, snakes, and people with halitosis.  And then, one day, that perfect mate comes along.  You see stars, you hear music, everyone around you fades to black.  This is the person you want to partner with for life.

The only problem is that INS has a few things to say about immigration status.  Your perfect partner?  Not a citizen.  Can’t get a visa to stay in the U.S.  Deportation looms, about to tear asunder the perfection you have found in each others’ arms.

Fortunately, you were planning on spending your lives together, anyway, so all you need to do is get married.  Right?  Right??  Right???

Except, you can’t.  Because marriage is only between a man and a woman.  And you are both men. Or both women.

I guess civil unions are more separate than equal, after all.
