Consignment Shopping for DC Metro Moms
Ah, the economy… But don’t fear. It’s bound to turn around soon. Experts are saying the economy should turn around by the first quarter of next year… fabulous news. But what do we do in the meantime?
I’ve heard a lot lately about consignment stores. I have friends that practically do all their shopping at consignment stores… and always look fabulous. Plus, it’s basically recycling, going green. It’s the thing to do now! But the only experience I have in consignment shopping was my one and only trip to a Salvation Army store in high school. I went to an all-girls private high school and we heard that the Salvation Army store in DC was a great place to find over-sized blazers and stuff… (Madonna had just gotten big- work with me here). But, that was a long time ago (thank goodness).
In the meantime, consignment stores have come a long way and I’ve heard from a few mom friends that a couple of these stores in Bethesda are great. So I set out with my Little Man and popped into two places unannounced.
First, we went to Wiggle Room on Del Ray Avenue in Bethesda. We saw racks of baby clothes through age 6, strollers that looked like new, as well as ‘The Back Room’, which is all consignment maternity wear.
We then went a few blocks over to the Second Chance Boutique on Fairmont Avenue in Bethesda. This consignment store has beautiful clothes and is pretty high end with designers like Chanel, Prada, Valentino, Donna Karan, Armani, Akris, Marc Jacobs, Fendi, and Christian Dior.
I really like the idea of passing on to others, whether it’s consignment or donating- people are not having to pay retail.
