Mama’s Monster Bag

Being a lover of fashion, I love purses as much as I love shoes but my problem is, when I shop for a purse, I always gravitate towards the HUGE, monster size purses. Is it even called a purse when it’s that big? I call it “Mama’s Monster Bag.”

Recently I bought an Asus Netbook and I'm thrilled that it’s my new travel companion. I’m constantly going to social media events where tweeting is encouraged but carrying my 17” laptop around all day putting a 1” dent in my shoulder from the straps. Who can relate?

I found one of my favorite purses by Chinese Laundry that I purchased a couple years ago way in the back of my closet doing a little Spring cleaning. I was beyond excited because of all the things that I can fit in it. I knew right away, the new Netbook would travel well in my long lost buddy. My current monster bag would have worked fine, but this one had compartments which is perfect for the "stuff" I'm toting around these days.

When My Daughter Can’t Reach Me….She Tweets Me

Social networks like Twitter has changed the way people communicate and interact today. It’s amazing how we can have conversations with multiple people from all over the world simultaneously and in “real time.” Being able to connect right away is what makes Twitter so powerful. Recently, I found that to be a close encounter; when my daughter can’t reach me, she tweets me.

The first time I received a tweet from my daughter, I was stunned! Evidently, my phone was on silent and after many failed attempts to contact me, she decided to send me a tweet.

                “@duongsheahan:  IDK how to get a hold of you. Can you pick me up?”

When I was her age, we did not have the convenience of reaching our parents by cell phones and social network wasn’t even in our vocabulary or thoughts. Both seemed like something from outer space; something I’d only see on Star Trek.

Driving Me Crazy

I remember turning sixteen years old and all the excitement around my birthday. It wasn’t due to the fact that it was my “sweet sixteenth” but the anticipation of being able to get my driver’s license. I don’t think that has changed for any sixteen year old today. The thought of my own teen driving and her reminders for months before her sixteenth birthday was driving me crazy.

As a mom, I don’t know about you but I struggled with the thought of having my teenager on the road so young. It wasn’t the reminders about her being behind the wheel that drove me crazy…it was all the little worries that I had about her being on the  road with thousands of other drivers.
