What was I thinking??
I just signed up to host Thanksgiving at our house. Twenty people, a 22-lb bird, and all the fixings. Mind you, our dining table only seats 8 and if I pull out the card table, we'll get 4 more. I guess our other guests will be sitting outside on the backyard furniture or eating on the couch. I'll put a sheet on the floor and they can pretend it is a picnic. I don't even think I have enough platters to present all the food.
I've cooked Thanksgiving dinner only once before (ten years ago), but my mom was there to direct every step of the way. This time, it will be just me, our organic turkey, and a ten pound bag of potatoes. I'll be lighting candles and saying prayers to make sure that I don't ruin the food. I've got to channel Martha Stewart, oh and buy a bigger table. And clean the house. And figure out where to set up the buffet. And take lots of deep breaths.
The only decision I've made is that we are eating LATE. I'm not gettin' up at the butt crack of dawn to put the turkey in the oven. One thing I'll certain need that day is energy. And wine. Lots and lots of wine (and whine).
