Where Vero drinks the Kool-Aid
Oh, my! Where to start? I’ve never been a mobile app kinda girl. I’m really all for the toys and widgets that can be found on the web that make my life easier. On My Computer, that thing I drag around with me everywhere (literally). I do love my little iBook, but recently I got to test drive a Blackberry loaded up with Yahoo! Go for Mobile 2.0. (yeh… the name is a mouthful).
You see, I spend A Lot of time online. Between blogging on several subjects, and my work, and my basic need to have every question answered instantly, I am pretty much connected all the time. Wifi is my friend. (yeh… it is a bit twisted).
The one spot that was disconnected was my daily commute to San Fran on CalTrain. How can we live in friggin’ Silicon Valley and not have our trains hooked up for wireless?! I’d happily pay for that.
Enter my new toy.
During my weeks with the shiny Blackberry I completely ignored the telephony parts of it and focused exclusively on the Yahoo! GFM2.0 group of tools. How incredibly great to be able to browse my friends photos on Flickr, and leave them little notes of awe and encouragement! I was able to catch up on my blogs (even the ones I was responsible for!). Keep abreast of the news. Know the forecast so I could lay out the right clothes for the kids at night. And even grabbed directions en-route to Benihana for my son’s birthday dinner.
It was fun. It was useful. And if there’s one thing I appreciate about new technologies, it’s their ability to help keep me on track with my life’s responsibilities, and keep me entertained when I don't want to think at all. Here I had it all in one neat little package.
Now, of course, I can’t help but look at the web projects I’m involved with and think about ways to make them easily accessible for mobile users. (yeh… I am a total geek. I live in Silicon Valley).
