Wilkes Bashford, Willie Brown and Two Happy Silicon Valley Moms
The fact that I almost cried tears of joy when I walked into the Wilkes Bashford/San Francisco Symphony Fashion Show last Thursday can be simply explained with a recap of the day leading up to that night: it was the last day of preschool (yikes) class party for my twins, ran home to put the twins down for a nap and meet my older son who comes home early that day, we worked on his homework, took an after nap walk around the duck pond near their Karate class while constantly reminding the boys of what happens when you get too close, Karate class ended at 6pm - ushered the boys into the car and headed home to take a shower. While putting on make-up the twins decided to play with my mascara which then ended up on my pants. Hunted for another pair of pants to wear while breaking up a wrestling match. Ran out of the door and did not answer husband when he jokingly asked "will you be home for bathtime?". Yeah, right...
Switch to walking into Wilkes Bashford at Stanford Shopping Center. Upbeat music was playing, racks of beautiful designer clothes and shelves of shoes and bags from the designers like Jimmy Choo and Dolce & Gabbana. If I had a dream closet, that would be it. Hors D'eourves are at every corner with champagne flowing at the bar. Enough to make a mom of three boys cry, of happiness...
Sarah G.(right), a long time supporter of the San Francisco Symphony and customer of Wilkes Bashford, invited me. I asked her what she is wearing and she just said a "DVF" dress, which I am also a big fan of. You know a designer has hit it big when people only need to say their initials. I wore a jacket by one of my favorite designers, Nanette Lepore.
Sarah wrote up her thoughts on the event at SFBayStyle. The show was devoted to the San Francisco Symphony Opening Night Gala (Sept. 19). I am a big fan of the San Francisco Symphony, I went as a kid and my older son has been to the family performances. We also enjoy visiting their kids website to explore music. When I can find someone who dares to babysitt my three boys I would enjoy going back to see the Symphony with my husband.
I do agree with Sarah that the staff at Wilkes Bashford are very friendly. One of the salespeople looked around the whole store for a dressing room for me to try on a emerald green silk dream gown even though he knew it was a size 2 (one of the dresses that the model wore at the show) and that there was NO WAY it would fit me. I was happy just to have the chance to hold it up next to me in the dressing room. The gala fashions included gowns with silver and gold metallic accents, jewel tone silk, neutrals with unique materials, different lengths such as shorter A-Line and bubble, and some classic but beautiful black dresses/gowns. I was glad to see fashions for different figures; the gowns with the fuller skirts and the A-Line shorter dresses are figure flattering.
After the show was over I walked past San Francisco celeb Willie Brown. I decided to ask if I could take a picture of him for the Silicon Valley Moms Blog and he kindly agreed.

Sarah and I left the world of fantasy and fashion back home to kiss our kids goodnight. Sarah ended up with a bloody nose after her young daughter lovingly grabbed her nose and I had to do extra back rubbing duty because my 8 year old had trouble sleeping. Back to reality, which is not so bad after all. But it would be nicer with some Jimmy Choo shoes and a that green silk gown in my closet (not the size 2 one).
As Sarah posted: *Note: we are in no way affiliated with the Wilkes Bashford store and we're not receiving any payment from them or any other businesses".
