My Name is Melissa and I'm a Blogaholic
I started blogging more than four years ago as a way to share pictures and stories with friends and family who lived far away. Soon after I began, I found out I was pregnant again, so the blog evolved into anecdotes about my pregnancy, complete with commentary on the weekly progress updates I received from Babycenter (ie. Congratulations! Your baby's eyelids are no longer fused shut.) I tried to post often, but it became difficult to find time with a newborn and a 20-month-old toddler. Eventually blogging fell to the wayside, replaced by my new favorite hobby--napping. I even considered shutting down the whole operation, but friends and family convinced that I would regret that decision. After several months we were able to establish a routine, so I returned to blogging and haven't looked back since.
Now here I am four years later, and in addition keeping up two personal blogs and contributing to the New Jersey Moms Blog, there's a growing list of blogs I read regularly--friends, co-workers, fellow mommy bloggers, even those I've stumbled upon randomly-- and I can't get enough. I can't miss my daily fix of Storked, LookyDaddy, Finslippy and Baristanet, just to name a few. And now with many of my favorite bloggers on Twitter, there's yet another way to keep up with their daily musings.
It's safe to say I spend more time reading or writing blog posts than watching television and reading "traditional" media, two of my favorite pastimes. I'm so caught up in the blogosphere that I take photos and videos of the boys with my blog at the forefront of my mind, and I've even caught myself composing blog posts in my head, most often in the shower or as I'm trying to fall asleep at night. While I'm confessing, you should know that the third thing I did after my pregnancy test read "positive" was take pictures for my blog (the first thing I did was tell my husband, the second thing was to take another test). I might not be intervention worthy quite yet, but I'm getting there.
