Spring has become a runaway train

Mail-5 All during those long, cold, dismal winter days, I couldn't WAIT for spring to get here.  Playing outside.  Daylight saving time.  Picnics.  Flowers.

Now, I am crying UNCLE.  Because I have not planted one flower or had a single picnic.  Instead, I am running from the end of school year concert to planning meetings for class parties, the preschool picnic, field day (at two different schools), cousin graduations (two different ones including FOUR separate ceremonies and three parties, including one my MY house), the Brownie flying up ceremony, the end of Brownies sleep over at Port Discovery, baseball practices, games, playoffs and, don't forget, the end of baseball party.

It's also Spirit Week at my kids' school, where each day, three different kids have to be dressed in three different crazy outfits, or colored outfits, or with crazy hats or accessories.  All necessitating multiple trips to the local thrift store and a whole lot of midnight adventures crawling through my overstuffed attic.

And for some insane reason, in the past two weeks, I also decided to take on some part-time work AND restore a huge piece of furniture.  Gah!

Eight trips to Costco, six to the thrift store, three (so far) to Home Depot and multiple batches of cupcakes later, I am about to lose my ever-lovin' mind.  (So much for that part-time job!)

Then there are the stacks of papers, workbooks, folders and artwork that are coming home from school every day.  (Times three.) Where to put it all?  (In the corner of the dining room is where I put it.  And there it will stay until July.  Even during the aforementioned graduation party.  Which is TODAY, by the way.  TODAY?!)

On top of the time crunch, and the paper avalanche, is the bank account drain.  School fees for next year.  September's tuition paid in advance.  Pool membership.  Swim team fees.  Summer camp deposits.  Coaches gifts.  Brownie leader gifts. And generous teacher gifts, because really?  These teachers have survived the whole year with MY KIDS.  They deserve the best.  Or at least the best I can afford.  (And don't forget all the plates, cups and forks I have bought at Costco and all that cupcake mix.)

Although the prospect of long summer days stretching out into seeming eternity terrifies me just a little, I am now wishing for the onslaught of mosquitoes, humidity and the summertime blues.  Anything to get off this merry-go-round of spring.
