My Mom Uniform
My uniform right now is jeans or khakis and long-sleeve t-shirts. When the weather really starts warming up, my uniform is shorts and short-sleeve t-shirts.
And I’m cool with this… But I’m wondering, ‘Is this a mom thing?’
‘Or is it just me?’
It’s mom-ish in itself that I was actually thinking about this. I get into such a routine, don’t get me started about routines, I love routines. Kids do better with routines, life is easier with routines. But, am I a routine-a-holic?
Maybe it’s because I grew up wearing school uniforms. All through grade school and high school I wore a uniform… and I enjoyed it!
You never had it think about what to wear, and our uniforms were pretty cute. There was no emphasis on what brand you were wearing, OBVIOUSLY. Earrings became a big deal; and by ‘big deal’ I mean that if they were TOO BIG the nuns took them away and you could buy them back at the end of the day at the school office, for $1. And that was kinda fun, believe it or not. But I digress…
I even asked my sister-in-law, who is much more of a ‘Saks Fifth Avenue type of mom’ than myself if she wears a ‘mom uniform’…
“Oh yeah, I wear khakis and turtlenecks with loafers… all winter.”
So is this a mom thing? Is this just another unconscious thing that us moms do because we are predominately thinking about our children and families, and not about our own wardrobe? Or is it just human behavior that we tend to reach for the same things in our closet over and over?
My uniform has gotten better over the past couple of years- it used to consist of all sweatsuits.
So, I’ve made progress…
But am I just wearing what I like? Or maybe, I just love a routine. Could it just be a habit, from growing up putting on a uniform everyday? Maybe no one else except my sister-in-law and I do this…
Or maybe, I’m just lazy.
