Best Laid Plans
My playgroup decided that we would take our 3 year olds to the Wings of Fancy Exhibit at Brookside Gardens. Only thing was on the day we decided to go, it was down pouring. And the parking lot in front of the conservatory was flooded so we had to park in the other lot, a mile away. And then we trekked, sans strollers, because the exhibit didn't allow strollers, through the rain and mud to the butterflies.
At least I can saw it was worth it. For 10 minutes. It held a bunch of three year olds attention for 10 minutes. Which would have been fine if we were parked right outside but we had to take the long, wet, dirty walk back to the car. With whiny, hungry, drenched preschoolers who were less than happy to be walking again.
The butterfly exhibit itself was actually quite nice. As you can see from the picture, Michael did enjoy watching the butterflies. The exhibit featured butterfly "life cycles as tiny eggs hatch into crawling, chewing caterpillars, which then encase themselves in jewel-like chrysalides and emerge as sipping, flying adult butterflies."
My only advice, if you go, is to make sure the parking lot next to the exhibit is open. Or go on a nice day. Because otherwise you are going to be very, very wet.
We did finish the morning off with a nice lunch of pizza and salad at The Stained Glass Pub which is located about 5 minutes away. And we were almost dry by the time we got back home.

Oh, we have SO had many, many of those outings. My general rule--like you--is the parking issue. 10 minutes is fine if I'm close or it's free!
