Greetings and Top Ten
Hello DC!
I am a new member of the DC Metro Moms community, and a prior member of the NYC Moms Blog community. We moved from New York to DC in January of this year, and it's taken me this long to get back into the blog swing of things. As a short intro, I'm a stay at home mother of a 2 year old girl, and I blog at: www.jabberjaw.name about sundry topics including, at the moment, adjusting to life in the capitol. While I'm sure I'll have much to say about the great things about DC soon, I'll start with a nostalgia post.
The Top Ten Things I Miss About New York City:
10. Tasti-D-Lite. Ah... what I wouldn't give for a theoretically guilt-free completely chemical non-dairy frozen treat just about now.
9. Food delivery. Any restaurant, any time of day, no delivery fee, arrives in 30 minutes. What else can I say?
8. Overall convenience. I have to pick up some organic turkey, some wheat-grass, a stamp, a card, my laundry and a latte. Grab the stroller and Bunny and it's all done within 2 blocks! No in and out of the car seat, no muss and fuss... done, and done!
7. Central Park. There just isn't another one anywhere in the world, so far as I know.
6. The pace. Every day felt like an adventure in New York. Just going outside and taking it all in was exciting.
5. Classes. I loved the classes at Aha!, Music Together, 92nd Street Y, Mary Ann Hall's School of Music.
4. The Parent Child Center. What a wonderful resource it was to have a child development expert as well as a psychologist who knew new-mommy issues in and out. We met every week and I miss it terribly.
3. The ease of apartment living. Anytime anything needed fixing, all it took was a phone call. No yard, no large living space to clean. Simple.
2. 92nd Street Y Parenting Center. Like the Parent Child Center, another great resource. It also happened to be where I met many great friends.
and of course the number 1 thing I miss about New York:
1. My friends. I met some of them when Bunny was a mere 3 months old at the 92nd Street Y new mom's group. Others I met at other 92nd Street Y classes and activities. We formed a playgroup that met every week, and I saw the moms and kids individually most other days for playground, classes, or other activities. We went through becoming moms together. We love and cherish each other's kids. It was like boot camp: the bonds we formed are intense and deep. I miss each of them every day.
