Have you visited Cooter's Place?

Devra123That's right people.  It's not your eyes.  Ain't no photoshopping either.  This is gen-u-ine Devra and The Huz sitting in The General Lee.  Why? Why am I in this car? Do I not strike you as a Dukes of Hazzard groupie?  Have you not seen my closet brimming with plaid shirts and Daisy Dukes?  You would doubt my devotion to The Dukes?  Well, ya caught me. I have never watched the show. Never.  But The Huz? Huge fan.

Lord help me. I am married to a gear head from a small town.  This combination is about as natural as corned beef on wheat, but somehow we make it work.  Over the past two decades, we have learned to figure out how small town boy and big city girl will relate to one another.  For the most part we do okay, we just need to remind ourselves now and then we come from different perspectives and must find our middle ground.  This, my friends, was one of those times.

So when we were recently in Nashville, The Huz noticed Cooter's Museum across the street from our hotel.  Of course he wanted to take in this museum.  I wanted to put my head in an oven go too!  Relationships are about give and take.  Ours is no different from anyone else's. I realize I am married to a man who will always lament the cancellation of his favorite show of all time.  For years, I have heard him express frustration with today's television programming, "And they cancelled The Dukes of Hazzard for this? Shameful. Just shameful."  He is all about "It's Mopar or no car!" (That's right. We belonged to this club when we lived in Louisiana and I am loud and proud. My parents on the otherhand were confused and bewildered. But I digress...)

If you can't get to Nashville and visit Cooter's Museum yourself, here are some ways you can bring  Cooter's Museum to your own home.

1. Buy the complete DVD set of The Dukes of Hazzard Show . Play them as loudly as possible on no fewer than three television sets in your home.

2. I know it's difficult to get one of these, so just get this instead. Park it in front of your house.  Put a sign in the window of the car that says "Picture of you in the General Lee. 5 bucks if we use your camera, 10 bucks for a Polaroid with ours."

3. You're going to have to save up and then start shopping on Ebay.  Scoop up about 7 of these,  display this in the biggest glass case you can possibly find, and fill the rest of the case up with this and a few of these and as many of these as you can possibly get your paws on.

4. If you really want to make others feel at home at your version of the museum, sport this on your head.

5. Finally, Email me and let me know when your museum is up and running and The Huz and I will make it a point to stop by. Maybe you'll even hear me exclaim,"I love it! I love it!"

But corned beef on wheat? Never.

Does anyone else have an example of finding the middle ground?

*The Huz does have hair on the top of his head, the pic looks like he doesn't. So if you were thinking he's a really  really hot bald guy, I am sorry to disappoint.
