Girl's Night Out with Chicago Moms Bloggers
Last night, I attended the Girl's Night Out event hosted by Sparkplugging and Epson, in collaboration with One2One Network. I was a little nervous attending the event, because I wasn't sure if I would have an interpreter there. I had emailed the interpreter agency two weeks before and then sent out an email to see if they had gotten my request. Apparently they hadn't. They scrambled to find an interpreter and then asked if the interpreter could bring a child with since there was no sitter available.
I said yes, as I really wanted to be able to connect at the event without straining to lipread.
When I arrived, I discovered that there was no interpreter. Ah well. I would just have to rely on good old lipreading and catch what I could.
After greeting Wendy Piersall, I found Liz Strauss and Barbara Rozgonyi whom I knew from SOBCon. As I mingled around the room, I found one Chicago Moms Blogger after another! It was so neat to connect with the gals behind this blog. Here we are:
Arianne, Marcie, Kim, Dianne, Jennifer, , Beth
Epson gave away a printer and during the night, we all picked up pictures that were being printed out every few minutes. I had the chance to connect one-on-one with quite a few of the gals who were there and manage
d to lip read most everything. During a few of the group chats, I got lost in the conversation several times, but that's usually how it goes when in groups and the words are firing back and forth. Most of the gals were great about slowing down and facing me during conversations.
Social situations without an interpreter usually scare the heck out of me, but last night was very enjoyable. The food was great, the wine flowed freely and best of all, a lot of new connections were made last night.
