Cubs, Cubs, Cubs!!!!
Did you feel it?! That great surge of excitement and energy that went around the city (or the world?) Friday night when the Cubs clinched the Division and a spot in the playoffs? I was actually driving to Michigan at the time, glued to WGN, calling my relatives with each exciting moment. First, the Cubbies won their game, and the magic number was down to one. Then, an hour later the Padres beat the Brewers, and that sealed the deal - we were in. My celebration was subdued so as not to disturb my husband who was driving, or my baby who was sleeping. But I did a 30 minute celebration dance in my seat. And today, back home, I ordered cable television for the first time in my life so I could see the games. (They aren't on WGN?? What is THAT about??)
But the question remains - how many games will I be watching on my new cable subscription? We could easily be eliminated in the first round. Or...go all the way? Only time will tell. But its not that often that the Cubbies are still playing ball in October, and I'm not going to miss a minute of it. Was it just this spring I told my friends I almost hated to teach my baby boy to cheer for Cubbie Blue, knowing how often his little heart would be broken? His current favorite thing in the world is the Cubs balloon he "bought" me for my birthday. I guess he's already been bitten smitten.
Go Cubs! Catherine will be watching the games while blogging over at everyday life as lyric poetry.
